I'm a man, but picked this book up while browsing because of the catchy title. This is a very funny book. I haven't finished it yet. I read about half of it in an airport book store while waiting for my plane. I plan to pick up a copy and finish it. I was laughing out loud the whole time I was reading it. I think he's right on about the sex part, but I did have a couple of issues with the book. He says something about how men picture themselves having sex with all women they find attractive. Then he stresses the ALL women part, by listing examples of women you might hope this doesn't apply to, but does. In that list he includes "...even women we're related to..." I would have to part ways with my astute brother on this point. I'm sure he didn't mean close relatives like siblings, children, etc, but it creeped me out just seeing that in writing.

I think he should have been more clear about that point. The story he tells of how men think is probably scary enough to women...

I bought this book because I bought another book from Charlie that I thought was pretty good (Destroy Approach Anxiety). I have not been on a date in a good while so I figure that I could brush up on things. If you are wondering the reason why I say the book is surprisingly is due to the cover. I think it's kind of cheesy, and sometimes I DO judge books based on their covers, but the content of the book was actually really good.

The books covers many things that I have never considered regarding dating in general, much less the first date. Wow. I just finished reading this last night. I was entertained by some of it, and very much wanted to like it, but in the end -- especially the end -- I was extremely disappointed. Potential readers know this: If you are looking for anecdotes about stepmotherhood you'll find plenty of them here... have a cuppa, have a laugh, know that there are others in your boat. But if you're looking for wisdom and practical solutions, steer clear. It's light and quick reading at best, and definitely does not provide sound or professional advice. I read Steve Santagati's Manual driven by the same curiosity that compels men to page through copies of Cosmo at a girlfriend's house. We don't subscribe to those magazines, so somehow they immediately create intrigue. So in part it was voyeurism, and in part I wanted to explore what lessons were being taught to women by one of our own. I read through a few of the reviews here where Santagi was demonized as a pig, and I guess I'm here to say that whether or not that happens to be true, what the ladies should be curious about is whether or not his comments are accurate or reflective of most men. While I will admit that his delivery is a bit crude, guys can be too sometimes, so overdoing it is probably a better tact than sugarcoating things. I found this book to be very helpful. I like that it was written by someone who has been there (twice), rather than a doctor/professional who has theories but no personal experience. I bought this book because I couldn't find any detailed information online regarding single-mom dating past the point of meeting someone and the initial introduction to the kids. This book goes into topics like public displays of affection, sleep-overs, moving in together, getting remarried, etc. I also like that it discusses all different age groups. Now that I've read it, my boyfriend is reading it too. It is written from the woman's perspective, but a man would certainly benefit from the information. I've read a lot of relationship self help books . This book is a gem of wisdom. It was very confronting and forced me to do some introspection. As I read the examples Brian gives I could see I was acting like `Rachel', the woman he uses in his examples. I made the same mistakes and actually started, created and increased the "fear of commitment" my boyfriend had.

I used to lose myself in my relationships. I was losing my self-respect and wasn't even aware of that, let alone what I could do to fix it.

I read this book out of curiosity - as well having a bit of trouble with the dating scene. I'm sure I've read as many dating advice books as your typical thirty-something female, but this one hit me differently from the beginning.

First of all, it's funny! The bottom line in The Plan is to have fun - which was the missing element in my dating life when I read this. Dating had become a drag and this lightened it up for me. Plus, there's a really fun online forum where Cindy Lu gives further support.

The thing that sold me on this book was when the author talked about going out on a date with a guy, splitting a burrito for dinner and the guy not having the money to even cover his half. Incredible! I've done exactly that! It really is ridiculous the lameness a girl will put up with just because a guy throws a little attention her way. That said, I started cringing early on because it seems the goal in the author's mind, is finding a "wealthy" man. Well that's not my goal and if I had known it would be the main theme I would not have bought this book. In order to make it through I mentally substituted "good" or "considerate" or "goal-oriented" for wealthy. It helped a lot.

I was unsure about this book, but was very curious. WOW! I can say! The title tells it all, but theres more to it for sure. The writer really hits home on many tabboo topics about men's issues. I trully trully enjoyed this book. It is very informative, and is focused on helping men. Although Im not what you call a 'loser' and do get some dates ocassionally, I got lots of great tips from the book. In addition, the book is so so funny I kept a smile the whole way through the book. Many of the subjects that the author touches upon appear to be obvious, but seeing them written the way they are really hits home.

I can honestly say, this book well defintely help many men who are not losers. Its intended to help divorcees, young men, and men out of practice in dating. It definetly boosts your self-esteem, thats for sure!
